The proposed Curbside EV Charging Pilot Program will enable businesses and home owners who don’t have access to off-street parking to install curbside electric vehicle charging. One of the biggest barriers to owning or switching to an electric vehicle is lack of access to convenient charging. The proposed pilot will help address this barrier and make electric vehicles a viable choice for more residents and businesses.
The pilot program will be open for two years until June 2019 and consists of two streams. Applicants are responsible for all costs and maintenance. You will also be required to sign a license agreement and carry the appropriate level of insurance.
Residential applicants:
- Only homeowners in RS/RT zones are eligible. There will be 15 stations permitted under this pilot.
- If EV charging can be accommodated on your property (i.e., you have a driveway or lane access), a curbside EV charging station installation will not be considered.
- Parking is restricted to 3 hrs only between 9am and 10pm at residential curbside chargers.
Non-residential applicants:
- Property owners or authorized tenants may apply for the non-residential program. There will be five stations permitted under this pilot.
- Parking is restricted to electric vehicles connected to the charging station at non‐residential curbsides.
