The City of Vancouver hopes to keep its place as the largest municipal EV fleet in Canada with a Request for Expression of Interest today. The RFEOI is for suppliers of electric vehicles, and the City hopes it will lead to more medium and heavy duty vehicles being electric. This is for the overall goal of reducing fleet emissions to 30% below 2007 levels by 2020 and 50% below 2007 levels by 2050.

With approximately 400 medium and heavy duty vehicles in the City’s fleet of 1,850; the City hopes to replace 100 of these trucks within the next five years. The types of vehicles they’re looking to replace include refuse trucks, cube vans, dump trucks, pickup trucks, dull dozers, and work vans. On display at the event were six of the City’s electrified fleet vehicles. They included an electric motorcycle used by the Police Department and a hybrid aerial boom truck.

The City also noted the goal of having 25 DC Fast Charging locations and 50 additional Level 2 stations by 2021.
