The City of Port Coquitlam passed a zoning bylaw amendment last night that goes into effect in six months. The bylaw will require newly built apartments, houses and townhouses to be equipped for at least one Level 2 charging station per dwelling unit. This means that nearly 100% of parking stalls must have electrical infrastructure for Level 2 stations. However, there is a bit of a loop-hole. If a building has two or more parking spots per unit, they only need to equip one of those spots with the adequate electrical capabilities.

Port Coquitlam joins several other municipalities that have recently passed bylaws requiring EV charging in new builds, including the City of Richmond and the District of Squamish.
